13-12: Katana, Mumei Shin-shinto, “Nichi Ren”

Description: This Shin-shinto piece is mumei with a horimono inscription.

Saya is new made with black “shimo” stripped pattern.  Good condition but older black samagawa tsuka with nice ya (arrow) motif menuki.  Tusba is open work of birds in trees.

This piece is o-suriage with 3 mekugi-ana and at one time was probably several inches longer.

Nakago is kiri with sujikai yasurime.

Blade is torizori, iroi mune, with ko-kissaki.  Hada is itame with gunome choji hamon.

Ura side of blade has a horimono inscription which reads “Namu Myoho Ren Gekyou”.
