Description: Mumei gendaito made by “Yakuwa Tadao”.  This is a long more slender piece made after the style of kamakura period tachi.

It is a well-balanced piece, shinoji-zukuri, koshi-zori, iroi-mune, standard shape nakago, kurijiri.

Yasurime is sujikai.

Jihada is ko-mukome hada, nioi-deki, with notare midare hamon and ko-maru boshi.

The saya looks to be about 20 years old, tsuka older and fittings are new.  The tsuba is a late Edo period classic crane piece.

 

Tōto-jū Yakuwa Musashi, Tōto-jū Yakuwa Musashi kinsaku, civilian name Yakuwa Tadao, born 1944, he signed sometimes also with his civilian name.  He studied under his father Yakuwa Yasutake, a well-known Yasukuni shrine smith.

Yakuwa Tadao is well known for the sharpness of his blades.
